If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

– Dr. Wayne Dyer –

What the eff even are archetypes?!

Archetypes were first introduced by famous psychologist Carl Jung way back in the 1940’s.

If you wanna’ know more about the Jung’s theory, you can read my post over here, or you could just Google it. There are about a gajillion and one articles out there that talk about them.

So instead of trying to summarize his life’s work, this page is my version of how you can apply these babies to your business + life.

Magician Brand Archetype

Online Entrepreneurs

The Magician is one of the most complex of the Brand Archetypes. Mainly, because they can show up in a couple of different ways in the entrepreneurial world.

They can be these mysterious, magical, spiritual, shaman-types that use crystals and journals and all things “woo-woo.” Or they might show up as the genius, technological, guru-type.

But their underlying motivations are the same, regardless of how they present their brand. They make shit happen – as if by magic.

Katrina Ruth // Writer, Speaker, + Coach

Katrina could have easily fit onto the Ruler page, or even the Hero page, but her ability to literally make things happen is undeniable. She works hard for everything, but at the end of the day, she decides what she wants and it happens for her. It’s unbelievable to watch.

She puts out the most inspiring and ass-kicking content DAILY and I love how she shows you all the behind-the-scenes parts of her life and biz, too. She’s the perfect person to follow if you’re struggling to believe in what’s possible for you.

Fictional Characters

Did you know that the archetypes all have a “shadow side” too? That’s why I’m showin’ ya the GOOD and the BAD side, so make sure to hover over the imagesto learn how each character fits the Magician Archetype.

THE GOOD Side

Rafiki

Rafiki is such a fun character. He could have easily fit on the Sage page, but I think he’s more like a shaman with his mystical practices. For example, reading feathers and dirt to know Simba was alive. Magical, right?

THE BAD Side

Dr. Facilier

He’s usually called the Shadow Man because his shadow has a mind of it’s own. Oh, and even the shadow is evil. He uses magic to manipulate others to get what he wants (money, duh).

THE GOOD Side

Iron Man

Tony is one of the Magicians that uses skill and technology to make things happen. He doesn’t actually have any superpowers, but he’s incredibly intelligent, a natural leader, a scientist, and a true visionary.

THE BAD Side

Red Skull

This guy was pretty evil… He was Hitler’s right-hand-man after all. And part of HYDRA. Luckily, Captain America took care of him, along with a bunch of other Nazis.

THE GOOD Side

Albus Dumbledore

I mean, everyone uses magic in Harry Potter, so that doesn’t count here. But can you think of a better Magician? I can’t. Dumbledore is the ultimate embodiment of a visionary leader.

THE BAD Side

Barty Crouch, Jr.

Magicians are all about transformation. And the bad ones are all about manipulation. Since he kidnapped Moody and impersonated him using Polyjuice Potion, I’d say he fits both sides of the Magician Brand Archetype perfectly.

THE GOOD Side

Margaery Tyrell

Man, I was so pissed when she died. She was one of my favorite characters to watch. She had a manipulative, but very subtle way of getting exactly what she wanted. I think she would have made an okay Queen.

THE BAD Side

Melisandre

She’s one of the few characters who possesses real, actual magic. Too bad she’s pure evil… ugh. I know she brought my beloved Jon Snow back from the dead, but I just can’t forgive her for killing Stannis’ daughter.

My favorite part… Music!

My favorite part… Music!

Rock n roll, baby

Fly from the Inside // Shinedown

It’s about finding a way to achieve your goals in spite of overwhelming odds and learning that the power to do so has always been inside yourself. Plus, Brent Smith’s voice. LOVE.

Country

Strawberry Wine // Deana Carter

Man, is there a better song to sum up a transformation? Well, maybe it’s a tie with this one.

Pop

Firework // Katy Perry

Fireworks are magical, right? And plastic bags? Just kidding. She’s talking about showing your true self to the world.

My favorite Magician song

7 Years // Sully Erna

If you don’t know me yet, you should know I’m a bit of a music snob. And I’m really proud of it.

Sure, I can appreciate the occasional pop-y song for fun, but my heart lies with the true musicians who write and play their own music.

So it’s only fitting that this is my favorite song for the Magician Brand Archetype.

This song is definitely in my top 3 favorite songs that have ever existed. I truly believe that music is the most magical and spiritual form of expression. “Life is but the memories we’ve created.”
