What the eff even are archetypes?!
Archetypes were first introduced by famous psychologist Carl Jung way back in the 1940’s.
If you wanna’ know more about the Jung’s theory, you can read my post over here, or you could just Google it. There are about a gajillion and one articles out there that talk about them.
So instead of trying to summarize his life’s work, this page is my version of how you can apply these babies to your business + life.
Let’s dive the heck in.

Strengths
Always true to themselves
Open to new experiences/growth
Open-minded and accepting

Goals
To escape from the ordinary
To be fulfilled and independent
To explore and discover new things

Weaknesses
Prone to aimless wandering
Tend to set unrealistic goals
Can be misfits or alienating

Fears
Conformity
Being trapped or tied down
Feeling bored or empty

Online Entrepreneurs
There are so so so many Explorer entrepreneurs! All that stuff you see online about “work from anywhere” or “the laptop lifestyle” are good examples of the Explorer Brand Archetype.
They have a strong sense of adventure and they’ll never be tied down to one place. Which makes them fun and exciting to follow!
Hannah Martin // Intrepid Introvert
Hannah is my favorite because she’s an introvert like me!
She’s a travel blogger from New Zealand who originally wanted to be an accountant. What?!
Luckily she realized that would be like, no fun at all. So now she flies all around the world with her man and lives in different countries for about a month at a time. Then she goes somewhere else, or maybe she stays longer, because there are NO RULES when you’re an Explorer.

Fictional Characters
Did you know that the archetypes all have a “shadow side” too? That’s why I’m showin’ ya the GOOD and the BAD side, so make sure to hover over the imagesto learn how each character fits the Explorer Archetype.

THE GOOD Side
Ariel
Ariel is a true adventurer. She’s determined to explore the human world, even when she knows it’s forbidden. She even sacrifices her voice for a chance to be with Prince Eric. #butshejustmethim #remembershesonly16

THE BAD Side
Clayton
Clayton tries to be an Explorer, but he’s only doing it so he can kidnap and sell the gorillas. He’s self-centered and treats the animals like they’re savages. Basically, he sucks.

THE GOOD Side
Thor
Ohhhh Thor…. The God of thunder and lightning and hotness. I mean, what’s more Explorer-like than traveling back and forth between worlds and saving them both? Plus, Chris Hemsworth. Enough said.

THE BAD Side
Venom
Venom isn’t exactly human, per say… but eh. Close enough. Explorer Archetypes are known for being non-committal so Venom fits here perfectly since he can’t even commit to who he wants to stick himself to and just bounces around from person to person. But who doesn’t love Tom Hardy, amiright?!

THE GOOD Side
Luna Lovegood
I love Luna. She’s a bit of a misfit, and sometimes she seems a little aimless, but she’s a true Explorer. She’s independent, she forges her own path, and she doesn’t seem bothered even when people call her Loony.

THE BAD Side
Rita Skeeter
Rita is an Explorer in that she travels around following excitement and adventure. Unfortunately, she usually twists the stories with her “poison-pen” and misrepresents Harry and the gang to make the stories more interesting.

THE GOOD Side
Arya Stark
Arya is an Explorer through and through. Even before she was forced to live a crazy life of adventure, she felt trapped in her “lady-like” life. Fortunately, her dad was awesome and she got to take fencing lessons. Good thing, too.

THE BAD Side
Ygritte
Ygritte lived on the other side of the wall as a wildling. She lived on her own terms and refused to kneel to a king she did not choose. She also got Jon Snow to break his oath of celibacy, so she must have been pretty awesome.

My favorite part… Music!
Rock n roll, baby
Don’t Stop Believin’ // Journey
Saying “I love Journey” would be the understatement of the century. Both Steve’s. And the Filipino singer. I love them all. And who the heck doesn’t need to hear this message!?
Country
Wicked Twisted Road // Reckless Kelly
They’re one of my favorites. I’ve seen them like 10 times already (and I’ll probably see them 50 more times). This is a perfect Explorer song about experiencing life.
My favorite Explorer song
Can’t You See // Black Stone Cherry
If you don’t know me yet, you should know I’m a bit of a music snob. And I’m really proud of it.
Sure, I can appreciate the occasional pop-y song for fun, but my heart lies with the true musicians who write and play their own music.
Now, don’t get me wrong… I love me some Marshall Tucker Band. I do. But I absolutely love this cover. The song is all about feeling trapped by a woman and running the eff away as far as possible – super Explorer-y, right?!
